AIDS Awareness Day

Today is World AIDS Awareness Day.  There are millions of people all over the world living with HIV or AIDS.  Yes, many are infected as a result of homosexual relationships, and that's the fastest growing population of people infected in the U.S.  However, what most people in the U.S. don't pay attention to are the millions of women and children all over the world who are infected through no fault of their own.  They didn't make a horrible choice that led them to become infected.  They were raped, forced into a relationship by their unprotected husbands, or just born with it because their mother was positive.  The saddest part is that it is completely preventable.  If you have it, it's also able to be controlled.  If you are educated and take the medications that you should take, your blood cells for the most part can have levels of HIV so low that they are barely detectable and you are practically unable to spread the virus.  So let's educate people and help them get the drugs they need.  Here's a great video by Project Hopeful.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VE9XnX7WRog&feature=player_embedded
